Art is a fascinating and amazing vehicle of self-expression. It is a rewarding journey of learning and discovery. Art is an adventure motivated by the heart, with an understanding of the process developed through practice and experimentation.

Art Adventures is a working studio designed for artists of all ages with a main focus on children. The programs offered encompass a wide variety of multimedia art experiences while developing technical skills. Students are encouraged to experiment, create and share ideas in an environment that is enriched, supportive, friendly, and personal.

The groups are kept small, enabling more one-on-one instruction, individual creativity, self-expression, and fun while learning. Everyone leaves feeling proud and excited about his or her accomplishments.

Drawing and Shading (pencil and charcoal on appropriate paper)
Instructor - Janice Garel

This will be a great lesson on learning to sharpen your drawing skills. We will focus attention to basic forms before attempting a completed picture. Students will also learn about atmospheric perspective and strategies for shading.


Sculpting  (clay)
Instructor -

Create a beautiful relief in clay which will be fired and finished to look like bronze.
You will be able to hang the finished piece on a wall.A drawing of the form to be sculpted, will first be completed before moving on to the form in clay.


Pastel (Urban landscape)
Instructor - Janice Garel

Students will first create a drawing from photographs of a city corner. They will be sharpening their perspective drawing skills as  this is fundamental to the development of a good base for their painting. They will then learn how to use the pastels to create interesting colour and tonal effects. This project will also tie into their drawing project, with respect to atmospheric perspective and shading, this time using colour.

Techniques for painting trees.  (Mixed media)
Learn various ways of drawing, painting and printing trees. The children will be learning many techniques and styles, using watercolour, pastels, acrylics and printing inks.  Each technique will treated as a separate painting so you can hang them as one large group or create smaller groups.

Drawing ( Pencil and charcoal)
Drawing is fundamental to all aspects of art.This will be an interesting and fun project, utilizing both pencil and charcoal. Students will follow along as step by step instructions are given on how to draw a still life. They will also learn how to correctly shade the image.

Expressionism ( mixed media )
Spotty and Striped birds. Learn all about expressionism as we create three wonderful and different images of birds using paint, chalk pastels and pen and ink. The students will also be learning about various artist who use this format of art.


Canvas floor cloth ( acrylic on canvas )
Design and paint a beautiful floor cloth. Students will have a wide range of images to work from as they create their design and colour way for this piece. A water based varnish will be painted on the finished  piece to protect it from stains.




Kinder Art - ages 4 - 5

Colour mixing
A fun introduction to the exciting world of colour theory using various media to create numerous colours.

Portrait Fun
Children will learn the basics of the art of portraiture then create a fun portrait of themselves in pastels on pastel paper.

Bugs in my story. (illustration and sculpture)
Create a story board with drawings then sculpt and paint one or two of your bug caricatures from your story.

Expressionism
Learn all about expressionism as we create spotty and striped birds. The children will be using acrylics, chalk pastels and pen and ink techniques to create these wonderful and beautiful paintings.

Abstract art

Learn about abstract artist and their expression of thought, form, lines and colour. Then create your own intriguing piece on a stretched canvas ( 3 'x 2' ).
Students will be viewing the works of various abstract artist before creating their own piece.

Photography 2
Instructor: Karin Hatch

This session is for beginner or intermediate.

Work with photographer Karin Hatch gaining a better in-site on how to capture interesting images. Learn about lighting, composition, and how to access all the great features your camera has to offer so as to achieve the best image. You will also be printing your images in the studio, and will be combining them with other media to create a unique digital photography art piece.
You will need to bring your own digital camera.

MASK MAKING  ( clay )

Create a one of a kind 3 - dimensional mask from clay using a variety of hand - building techniques. Students will explore images of masks and their use in different countries and cultures. Form and textured patterns will also be explored and used to complete this fabulous piece.

 
Inuit Art ( printmaking )
Examine prints made by Inuit artist then create your own set of intriguing prints. Students will be studying line, form, texture and colour while creating their images which will be carved and printed.

Clay Mask
Create your very own one of a kind mask using a variety of hand building techniques.Students will explore different images of mask from various countries
then create their own unique piece.

Mobiles ( multi-media )
Create an amazing mobile using squares of clear film, textured papers, threads, metal, sequins and more. These will look amazing hanging in your room.


Shading effects ( pen and ink)
Learn how to create a picture using different types of shading in your drawings. Children will first create a pen and ink landscape with trees, animals, birds, flowers etc. They will then fill in their shapes with various patterns and marks while learning about cross hatching, stippling, strength of shading and much more.

Mothers Day Workshop

Ages 5- 12

Design and paint a wonderful wooden bowl for mom  to display on a table or wall. Bowls will be sealed with a water based varnish for protection.
